The message is a warning, "...it is safe to ignore but..." so take it
at it's word, ignore it, and try to proceed with the linux
installation. Did you do that? If so, did the installation software
take you to the point where it showed you the partitions? If you can
get there, I would have it delete the non-windows partitions then
create partitions for linux from within the installation software.
This makes linux author the partition table entries, so they will be
to linux's liking. If you can't get there, you might try deleting
those non-windows partitions from another tool. Preferably a linux
tool-- like a bootable knoppix CD (http://www.knoppix.org/) or the
rescue mode of a set of linux installation CDs. Worst case, delete
those partitions from within Windows (win98 has an fdisk program).
