The way partitions are named in Linux, hd?1-hd?4 are always primary
partitions. One of those four must be an extended partition, which
contains all the logical ("secondary") partitions. If your hardware is
up-to-date, you shouldn't need a /boot partition, but you could use one
/boot partition for multiple Linux distros.
