Faster Printing on InkJet Printers

I'm wondering whether Suse 9.2 (CUPS) supports printing on inkjet printers
in two directions? I note that when I print under Windows my BJC3000 prints
much quicker than under Suse. I believe the difference is that under
Windows the printer prints when the print head runs from left to right and
right to left. However, under Linux it only prints in one direction.

Naturally, I've looked for settings everywhere but no luck.
