It would be helpful if you give us the make and model number of your dsl
modem and router and whether the router is built into the modem or is a
separate device.
In the absence of that information, the usual router setup is that the
router handles the PPPoE or PPPoA connection set-up, so the following
assumes that to be your set-up
The internet service sees your router as if it were your computer and
the isp that it assigns is assigned to the router's wan side and not to
your computer or computers.
The PPPoE or PPPoA is configured by using a browser to access the
router's firmware. Once the WAN side of the router is set up to
connect to the modem and hence to the public net, it need not again be
set up when you switch operating systems in the computer.
The connection between the computer and the route is then a standart
tcp/ip local net, usually with automatic ip (dhcp/bootp) which is the
default for all modern operating systems so you don't need special
software.
Set up your computer using standard tcp/ip with dhcp, let the router
assign your local ip address, netmask, gateway address and dns
addresses. Use your browser to set up the router's connection to the
internet using the router's firmware's private ip address which will be
found in your user guide. DO NOT CONFIGURE YOUR COMPUTER FOR DSL.
Your computer is not talking to a dsl device. It is not part of the
public net, it is in a private net with the router as the gateway to
the public net.
