bootable cdrom creation

I am looking for an application or script which will take a list of
applications, and generate a iso image that contains everything (libraries,
programs an, kernel, initscripts... whatever) required to run those
applications that can be burned to a cdrom.

does anyone out there in netland know of such a beast?
