Just thought I'd post this in case others have run into this and someone
reading this group has an insight.
I configured the kernel using: make xconfig
and wasn't sure I'd like the results, so left the config results in the
.config file rather than saving and managing them seperately as I
ususally do (anyway, I had "Kernel .config support" checked, together
with "Enable access to .config through /proc/config.gz").
Turns out I liked the way things worked (seemed to get rid of Fedora
Core 3 hang on logout through some magic combo of config options), but
before I remebered to copy .config to something safe, I'd already found
my fingers had entered: make mrproper
This blew away my .config file, but, I'm way too lucky to get bogged
down by that because I've built in .config support. Imagine my chagrin
to find out that the /proc/config.gz that I tried to load into the "make
xconfig" gui did not display the settings I used for building the kernel
(and no error messages about loading the config).
Hey, Dude! Where's my .config.
