Thanks to all for the answers.
But the question remains: how to upgrade? The modules configuration is quite
different. This makes "dpkg -i kernel-image2-6*" fail in a 2.4 enviroment
("can't find modprobe.conf...."). It doesn't matter whether the kernel
image package is taken from repositories or builded with vanilla sources.
So, how can I get out of this circle? Someone tells about web sites who
describes the process: where? I googled a lot without satisfying answer.
