That is a bios limitation if it exists, and with a certain type of bios
call only.

You mean /dev/hdb2? why do you say "second primary partition on slave
disk"? Your bios may not be able to boot of a slave at all. But if it
has a 1024 cylinder limitation (unlikely), then why would it be LESS
likely to apply to the slave disk than the master? I'm puzzled as to
what you mean.

Eh? You want to leave space on the DISK for linux to install in, not
inside one of your dos partitions.
But yes, you can place your /boot (note "/boot", not "\boot"!) in a
msdos partition. Why worry though? Mae yourself an extra partition
for it, or don't use a separate partition at all.

Eh? Where they are is not of any interest to anyone. If your bios can't
boot the kernel image where yu put it, put it somewhere else!

Why? Your comments are a bit nonsensical which implies that you
don't get the idea they are all describing. It looks to me as though
you don't grok the idea of partitions vs file systems vs directories.
So don't worry about it. Just make some free space on your DISK (i.e.
remove some partitions, or shrink them), and let linux install in taht
space.

There is no such thing as "luck". Describe what you did and what went
wrong as a result, and people will be able to help you make different
design choices next time.
