Runing Linux in a network with XP computers?

Perhaps my title reveals a certain amount of ignorance about this, but
I have a home network where I am connected to a cable modem via a
router. It was set up with all the computers running under windows xp.
Can one computer be switched to linux, or will the different systems
interfere with each other or somesuch?
