$ man hdparm

and read especially the -d and -X options

Not familiar with the details of Yast, so have no idea just where/how
the setting change you made is stored and applied. Probably a good
idea to find out and "correct" it.

Don't be casual with hdparm, as it can _really_ mess up a hard drive if
you're careless.

You may want to google your Suse 9.2/hard drive/mother board combo to
check for any known gotchas. A BIOS update may be in order also.
