... i would check the BIOS settings. when you pulled the power,
the BIOS probably removed the settings not seeing a drive, then
when you plugged it back in, in may have settings, but they
might be rwong. what this implies is that the second drive is
not being recognized.

the GRUB boot loader is a two-stage process. first, it has
code in the MBR (hda in this case), then it knows by a config
setting (MBR) that is has to look for the rest of itself at
that other config location, in your case, on hdb.
