According to

loading usb-serial then the visor and running jpilot is enough.

I had recently played with Suse 9.2 Pro, but until your article didn't
realize I was missing some much needed modules. I can now successfully
sync my Treo650 with USB or Bluetooth. As a thanks, enjoy this:
