Hi all,
I have setup a linux box with a Debian Woody 3.0 as an Internet gateway
for my small network (NAT,DNS server/relay,DHCP,IPTables, ...).
Now, as the box seems to be not overloaded (less than 1% CPU time), I
would like to use it as mail server mainly to filter spam (with spam
assassin) before they reach my mailbox.
I read a lot of HowTo, news archives, and web site and I am a little bit
confused.
As far as I understand, I need a MTA (mail transport agent) as
sendmail, exim(default for Debian) or postfix (my choose seems to go to
this one).
But to retreive (and send) mail from my mailbox (and other users
mailboxes) on the ISP server, should I install a SMTP/POP3 client? or
the MTA is enough ?
Second point, to retreive (and send) my mail from my server to my
computer, should I install a POP3 server (or IMAP) and/or a SMTP server
? Or the MTA is enough ?
Sorry, but I found nowhere an clear answers to this question
Thanks for your help
Ericc
