Hello
Has anyone else seen these problems appearing.
Hardware
========
Dell SC1800 Server
Dual Xeon 3.0GHz
1Gb RAM
5 * 146GB RAID 5 Disks
O/S & Software
==============
Red Hat Enterprise 3.0 ES
D3-Linux 7.4.2
"up2date" has been run, so all CUPS applications are "current".
I have RedHat Enterprise 3.0 ES. Because of the DATABASE running
(D3/PICK) all the network printers are using LPD, which on Version 3.0
of RedHat means CUPS-LPD, as LPD has been removed altogther, and you
have to use the "compatability" link.
Anyway, my server has 40 network printers all running fine, but over a
period of days the CPU processing power is totally consumed and the
machine becomes very unresponsive.
Performing a
TOP
command, shows that a process of "GNOME-PRINT-M" is running at 25% of
the total CPU power. Over the next few days, another 2 of these
"GNOME-PRINT-M" processes will evolve, hence taking up around 75% of
the CPU power, and finally an "EGGCUPS" takes the remaining 25%.
We use PRINT MANAGER to look a JOBS etc, but we always close it down
afterwards, so its not running 24/7. We have even dropped out of the
"startx" window, and it still leaves these processes running.
Has anyone seen these problems?
TIA
John
