System: FC3 on hdb
I've pretty much gotten everything working the way I want on my new system.
When I originally loaded FC3 I used the DVD and simply put everything on
hdb to try out.
Now, I want to trim the system down and make it "mine". I've read up on
rebuilding the kernel and I am pretty OK with that idea. I have 2 versions
of FC3 on my system now (the older and then the latest which was upgraded
by yum upgrade. I'll need to blow that away.
Anyway, I understand that rpm can be used to remove packages, cleanly, but I
am more interested in cleaning out everything I don't need.
Some of my ideas are:
1. preserve /home on my Firewire
2. Erase everything from hdb and reinstall FC3 with only those selected
apps that I will use.
3. #2 above, however, seems to lose the d/l apps I have built ... like Nero
for Linux, Storix, and so forth.
4. After reloading FC3 copy the /home files and overwrite the "new" /home
folder.
What say you all?
TIA!
Dave
