Hi everybody.
I have just installed Debian-Sarge. I have to say that it was overall
easy. The only problem is that my computer has no sound. It looks like
Sarge did not detect my soundcard. Here is what Knoppix 3.9 found at
boot:
Soundcard: 5880 AudioPCI driver es=1371
I did an lsmod to see what modules were loaded, and I got the following
list:

What shall I do now? Simply insmod all the modules which look
sound-related and which Sarge did not already load, or is there a way
for me to identify which module(s) are needed to get my soundcard to
work?
Also - if I insmod the correct modules - will they still be there after
a shutdown/reboot or do I need to modify some other file?
Lastly - is there a tool which comes with Debian-Sarge which would
allow me to configure my soundcard? Somebody reccommended sndconfig to
me, but I checked (with synaptic) and it is not included in the 15000+
apps which come on the 14 Debian-Sarge CDs. Surely there is some good
tool lurking among all these apps?
Many thanks for your help & pointers,
VS
