Trying to build LFS 6.0 on a Red Hat 8.0 system

... so far so good until I try to install glibc for the toolchain
(see http://www.linuxfromscratch.org, section 5.8),
at which time I am told "kernel too old." glibc version is 3.4.4.
How can I get glibc to build/install? Am I trying to go too far... to
install a glibc that's too new, or to make too-far of a jump from old
version to new? It seems to me that I ought to be able to /compile/ on
this system version. But I'm just not sure.
Please advise.
