Hello all,
I bought a new computer and was trying to get my feet wet with Linux. I
thought about installing Gentoo on my machine.
But was not able to go long with out problems as I realised that Gentoo was
unable to detect my SATA hard disk. Though I proceeded by getting it
installed on a 4GB PATA hard disk I found that I could not get "KDE" running
since it said that it could not run in framebuffer mode (I tried with nofb
in the kernel options but, to no avail). Besides I also found out that my
system clock was running faster that the normal when I was inside Linux.
Also, can you tell me how to install a new driver in linux.
Can someone please help me!!
My configuration is
Processor: AMD64 3000+
Motherboard: MSI RS480 (ATI Raedon chipset)
RAM : 512MB (2x256MB)
Hard Disk: 80GB SATA, Seagate
4GB PATA, Quantum
I suspect that this motherboard uses a chip from Silicon Image to provide
SATA support.
The linux kernel was a 2.6 version.
Thanks in advance,
Nithin.
