Hi, Tim,
You already did most of the work by installing KDE. Now what you need to
do is log out, don't restart, just log out. OK, now you should see the
logon screen. There should be a button or something similar with the
words "Session", press that and select "KDE".
If I remember correctly you'll get a question if you want KDE for just
this session or always, select always.
