Well, that's no good. What would linux want with a dos partition. REMOVE
one of those, thus creating free space for linux.

Well, of course not - there is no free space! You covered the disk with
two partitions. Make some free space.

why do you do a "split" instead of a "shrink"?

Remove one of your partitions and thus create some space!
