Your grub.conf looks like this you say:

default=0
timeout=10
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title Fedora Core (2.6.5-1.358)
root(hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.5-1.358 ro root=LABEL=/
initrd /initrd-2.6.5-1.358.img
title Other
rootnoverify(hd1,0)
chainloader +1


I am not sure this is correct, but it most likely depends on your BIOS
settings. I suspect that hdc is hd1 whereas hde is hd0.
Try changing them.

If that doesn't help, try the alternative way: booting from hdc.
You can probably select this is in the BIOS. It does however require
that a bootloader is present in the MBR of hdc.

You can then boot XP through grub, which is far easier.

Or even easier: use lilo instead of grub.
