Yes, it's odd that the hard disk I installed later should be hdc/hd0.
But I checked in device.map, and there it says hd0 is hdc, and hd1 is
hde. I still tried to change them, but to no avail (as expected).
I wonder if I should change the cables that attach the two disks to the
motherboard?

Yes, that's an option. I tried to mess as little as possible with the
Win disk, but I may have to give up.
