When you boot from the disc in there should be a splash screen with a
boot prompt there. Hit F1 to check and make sure you are installing
the 2.6 series kernel. Also, you can check the parameters listed there
to see what you need to type at the boot prompt to get the drivers for
the SATA working. Make sure you are using the Debian 3.1r0a installer.
Personally, if you have a simple network with dhcp and an active
internet connection I recommend using the Debian 3.1r0a netinstall.
Download the tiny image <200mb burn to RW disc if you have one and then
start the install from that.
