I know what I did to get it to work on CentOS 4.2.
I replaced the ISA sound board (that worked just fine with Red Hat Linux 9,
and worked just fine with Windows XP Home) with a very similar PCI sound
board. It seems the 2.6 kernels just cannot stand ISA sound boards, at least
Creative Labs Sound Blaster ones.
