hi;
you are trying to load this onto an external SATA drive, correct ??
Make sure the BIOS boot options are set to Allow booting from
"Removable drives" and make sure Boot from SATA is [Enabled]

Can you post your Mobo's Make/Model ?
i know you stated you're using a VIA SATA RAID Controller, but are you
trying to use the Mobo's VIA Chipset controller (SATA #1 and 2 perhaps
in the BIOS, and sometimes it's listed as IDE#4 and 5, as the PATA
hookups are listed IDE0 thru IDE3) ?
-or- perhaps you're inadvertantly plugged into the wrong Onboard 3rd
party SATA controller, such as a Promise or Sil3114 Onboard SATA chip
(perhaps SATA#3 and 4, or IDE6 and IDE7 in the BIOS).
Setting the "Boot order priority" and enabling SATA may help with all
above.
You are not hooked into a PCI/IDE add-in card correct ?...do you have
one installed ?
As an external SATA hookup, have you made sure the Header from the Mobo
to the External Ports are wired correctly (using rear backplane
hookup(s) ?) , and all the Mobo Jumpers are set accordingly ? Review
the Mobo manual for specifics.
