I couldn't get the NIC on my ASUS A8V-E SE motherboard (Marvell
88E8053 Gigabit LAN Controller) to work at all until I downloaded
the latest driver (sk98lin) from
http://www.syskonnect.com/syskonnect/support/driver/zip/linux/

As for getting the sound working, for me it was just a matter
of running alsamixer and turning up the volume on the appropriate
devices (as well as making sure they weren't muted).
