No problem. I had a contract recently finish and am housesitting someone
with a broken leg, so I've had some time.

Well, this tells me something: this VNC server has a system level server
that's oddly configured. For most such services, it would be running in
runlevel 3 and 5, not just runlevel 5. What runlevel are you in right now?
( /sbin/runlevel should tell you this.) And what does
"/etc/rc.d/init.d/vncserver status" say? Or "/etc/rc.d/init.d/vncserver
restart"?
