Hi, I'm a podcaster who does occasional music recording.
I have a Windows PC and soon a linux laptop.
I presume that whatever I buy will have onboard sound.
However, I still haven't bought a soundcard for Windows PC, and thought
it would be nice to buy a USB sound card which I could also use on both
the win desktop and linux laptop. If it could be used on both machines,
I might go for a higher end card.
Here's a list of usb sound cards.

So far the two big contenders are
Creative External Sound Blaster Live! SB0490 5.1 Channels 24-bit 48kHz
in 5.1 mode and up
($50) and
USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX (90$)
Anybody had any luck with the USB sound cards on linux (I'll be
downloading Fedora Core 5 (a test version).

and
Sound will be going from a mike to mixer to line in on the sound card.
