GRUB: How to define to hich menu.lst GRUB refers

Hi,
Currently I have a multiboot system with GRUB in MBR which "uses" menu.lst
in hd(1,6).
I'm planning to install a new distribution on an unused partition (hd(1,7))
for testing purposes.
Assuming that during the installation of the new distro the existing
GRUB/MBR will be overwritten, it will probably create a new menu.lst in
hd(1,7) and "link" the MBR to it.
I'd rather use my existing menu.lst in hd(1,6), with possible editing, as I
might remove the new installation after some testing.

How can I change GRUB/MBR linkage from hd(1,7) back o hd(1,6)?

TIA

.
