Do I delete the partition in Partion Magic 7.0, leaving Grub find it and
install the OS & Loader ?.

You don't need Partition Magic to delete a partition. You can do it with
XP (German: Datenträgerverwaltung). Then make at least 2 data partitions
and a swap partition, one data partition for /home.

I don't want my C: partition touching in any respect - I've already
suffered three XP crashes this year.... and don't want another :)

You should make a read only mount to the Windows partitions. It's never
a good idea to write to a NTFS partition with the NTFS driver from
Linux.
