Hmm...

I don't really know about the Ubuntu installer, but the Fedora
installer will detect any partition, wipe it, and convert it to ext3 as
required by Linux, regardless of file system.

I would imagine that Ubuntu would do the same... just make sure that it
doesn't touch anything bigger than 15 GB during installation.
