Welcome to the world of wonder. Take a good, deep look at the man pages that
refer to time: but in you position I'd bring it down to single user mode,
set up NTP to make sure my time is always good, reset the TZ, and do a
reboot. It's not that the kernel will be so confused, but sometimes people
write log analyzers that read text and those can become *very* confused when
there's a 3 hours jump backwards in time as you switch time zones. And
there's nothing like confusing your log analyzers and reporting tools to
generate strangeness: I've experienced this with MRTG, in particular.
