Thanks for the reply. It's a dual Opteron IBM Intellistation A Pro.
Usually snappy stand alone.

BTW, I decided to google for your problem, and it seems a lot of the
recent posts flow back to you. But for reference, other people are
having trouble with it, too:

I am very curious to see how this resolves because if I understand remote
X correctly, it is just transmits X's instructions for screen drawing
over the network. There should be no specific performance penalty for any
application. That is, it should not be specific to java, etc. The ssh
transport that you are using includes a performance hit, though. BTW,
have you actually run the program directly at the lab for a speed
comparison?

Thansk Doug. Actually, I run at the lab, and I can remote in from my
office over a T1, and its as fast as sitting at the machine pretty
much. It's just over DSL I have the trouble.

Thanks
Jim

Does it start out fast, then get slow? I have noticed some DSL routers
will "time out" a valid connection if it goes idle for a few minutes. I
wrote this earlier about keeping a connection alive:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.os.linux.slackware/msg/0f02a8a426b0a5a6

AFAIK, your DSL at 1.5M is about equiv to T1 speed. Think if anything
else could be blocking. Unfortunately, I don't know of a java based
application to do more tests with myself.
