Epson and HP and the other printer standard always keep their's alive to backfit but the newest printers can never have the latest features.

Why would you expect a release older than the drive to support the drive? Forward compatibility is a lick and a promise.

All of this "stuck with a distribution" stuff is Microsoft thinking. That is what MS wants so they can charge for service packs and their collaborators can charge hapless MS users for obvious drivers.
