Hi,
I've been using Mandriva 2006 (KDE 3.4.2) with a separate /home ReiserFS
partition.
Today I've installed Kubuntu Dapper (6.0.6)beta (-KDE 3.5.2) on the same
computer (multi boot).
My question: Can I share my (Mandriva) /home partition also in Kubuntu
although those a different distributions and different KDE versions?
Yes. The worst which could happen is a different release of KDE could dink
up your configuration/data files in your account.
I assume you have backups and have tested your restore/recovery procedure.
Will my (Mandriva) existing locale. Kmail, KAddressBook and
bookmarks (both Konqueror and Firefox) stay intact?
I wondered why my ~/.xsession-errors file was large. It had complaints
about the format of my desktop shortcuts I had created in an older
release of KDE. Solution was to delete them and create new ones.
What I have decided to do is create seperate accounts for firefox and
thunderbird use in a seperate partition (/accounts).
When I login, ~/.kde/Autostart/ has a script to jump
to different desktops and automagically logs into each account.
Each account's .bash_profile fires up firefox or thunderbird.
Now I can have a /home in each distribution loaded with whatever the
desktop wants for it's config files.
I link common ~bittwsiter directories to /accounts/bittwister
Back is easy, just backup /accounts.
