HFS+ on linux

Hallo everybody,
I just create a linux machine to be used as a small server on my home
network.
I installed SUSE 10.1 since I am not so experienced in linux matters.
Now I have an external usb2.0 HD with all my documents, music and so on
and I would like to share it in the network. The HD is now attached to
my Mac Mini but I havo no will to leave my Mac on the whole day.
So I decided to attach to the linux machines but without success.
The problem is that the disk is formatted in HFS+, I was neither able
to mount it even if I installed the rpm hfsplusutilities.
Moreover I saw this package can be used only to read HFS+ disk and not
to write in them.
Now I don't know what to do, do I need to format the disk with another
filesystem?
I would like to be able attach the disk, if needed, to my Mac or to my
windows Laptop.
FAT32 is one solution but I prefer not to use it for a 300 GB hd.
Does anyone have some idea??
Thank you very much.
.
