It depends what you mean for 'easier'. If you mean "I don't want to
think" then no. And remember: you don't have to use it if you don't
want to.

I think the poster's point was that the products were not working as
advertised. The fact that he went back to RH9, should indicate that he
uses Linux and *does* think.

I've been experimenting with various flavors of Linux myself -- and
have run into the same kinds of snarls. I've been able to load Knoppix
and it's close relative DSL with few problems -- except when I try to
load Knoppix on my hard drive it will not boot from the hard drive --
ever. I've gone through all five versions of Fedora with various levels
of success -- biggest problem is just getting the multimedia stuff to
work (so that's not really an issue with the install itself, except for
some problems with the sound card). SuSE 10 works great, even has easy-
to-follow instructions on how to get all the multimedia stuff to work.
Ubuntu loads fine for me, but I can *not* get it to work on the
Internet (every other distro just finds the 3Com Lan card and takes
off). Debian installs fine from the Internet, but I can't get Xwindows
to work right with my nVidia video card.

But it doesn't bother me much, because I've got a computer just for
experimenting with Linux (a used Dell Pentium III I bought cheap).
However *if* I made the decision to go to, say Ubuntu, got my work
computer ready -- installed the distro and ran into the trouble with
the Internet that I did (three times) I think I might be a little
frustrated -- especially since folks keep saying how effortlessly it
installs.

I think sometimes folks should put themselves into the other person's
position and consider what they are going through because saying
something stupid like "you've got to think." Maybe they should put
their own brains in gear before knee-jerk insulting.
