I am having some problems that I have described here.

On googling around I have come across a linux distro called BG-Rescue
Linux found here.

On going through the docs I think I will have to learn how to mount
disk volumes - IDE and USB and a network adapter USB.
Is there some info on how I can check whether the USB hard disk and the
USB adapter have been detected and get them to work?
The USB Disk I intend to attach via the quite common USB IDE adapter
using Oxford Semiconductor chipset and the USB network adapter
SMC2206ETH EZ Connect.
Will there be a way to detect them and configure them?
.
