Help Detecting USB devices using Linux Rescue system

I am having some problems that I have described here.
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.os.linux.setup/browse_thread/thread/2aa69baad7fe9363/49f04f75ae9e6a12?lnk=st&q=mydejamail&rnum=3#49f04f75ae9e6a12

On googling around I have come across a linux distro called BG-Rescue
Linux found here.
http://omnibus.uni-freiburg.de/~giannone/rescue/current/#Top

On going through the docs I think I will have to learn how to mount
disk volumes - IDE and USB and a network adapter USB.

Is there some info on how I can check whether the USB hard disk and the
USB adapter have been detected and get them to work?

The USB Disk I intend to attach via the quite common USB IDE adapter
using Oxford Semiconductor chipset and the USB network adapter
SMC2206ETH EZ Connect.

Will there be a way to detect them and configure them?
