automounts vfat usb drives, but not ext2 usb drives

My powerpc embedded system automounts attached usb drvies with fat32
file systems, but does not automount attached usb drives with ext2 file
systems.

i checked fstab and there is the usbfs entry, but I didn't see an entry
for vfat systems. I'm a bit lost as to where this configuration is.

any suggestions?
