Hello everyone,
I want to update the kernel 2.4 to 2.6 in my Redhat linux 9. I will
explained the steps below.
While in " make menuconfig".
I want to load the existing configuration that was saved in a "./config
file" when i load the kernel 2.4 previously.
Where is the file ./config located? what is the default location of the
file in Redhat Linux 9.
It takes some extra work before upgrading this dead OS* to the 2.6 kernel
series. Lucky for you I still have some old links;

http://thomer.com/linux/migrate-to-2.6.html

FYI: the .config file from the 2.4 kernel is not compatible with the 2.6
kernel series (layout changes, name changes and other). Red hat config
files are not 100% compatible with the kernel source from kernel.org also.
The Red hat family normally keeps a (visable) copy in the /boot directory by
the naming scheme of config-<kernel-version-number>. The .config file is
normally in an earlier /usr/src/linux-<version_number> directory location.
In some cases 9if built into a kernel) you can find the current config file
in the /proc directory, the config.gz file is a compressed copy.
* Red hat ended support for the OS over 2 years ago, Fedora Legacy will end
support October 1, 2006
