Everything has its place rather than dumping things randomly around the hard
disk.

bin = binary

Rather, as [usr]/bin also contains scripts:

bin \'bin\ n : a box, crib, or enclosure used for storage

sbin = "system" binary (things required to get the machine booted up and
other things for system monitoring and maintenance)
etc...
