For my self and just about everyone else I know, they would rather have

Using flawed logic. As others have pointed out, Linux useage does not
require the use of "tux" type wallpaper. There are many other possible
reasons for a decline in queries that you fail to address, like an overall
drop in the discussion about the mascot...
Nothing more. Many have been skeptical of it hoping
for closet adoptions of it.
Nothing closeted about it, while geeks that have no life other than what OS
they run on a computer may want a "tux" type wallpaper, but most non-geek
people that are now using Linux because their place of work has switched
over are not going to search for "tux" wall paper.
