Any way to disable automatic SMP?

The new kernels for FC6 automatically determine whether the kernel will behave as a uniprocessor or SMP. Is there any flag that can be used at boot time to force the kernel to go in to uniprocessor mode? I've got a Core 2 Duo machine, and it routinely freezes up with the default (SMP) kernel.
