That is up to you. /etc/syslog.conf
On my system it is
daemon.* /var/log/daemonlog
but you can do what you want.

No, syslogd, which all distros start up on bootup.

Same package, the source for sysklogd contains syslogd and klogd.

Sorry, I did not realise you were talking about a package on some
distribution. syslogd is the actual daemon (program) that does the logging.
distros do not start up packages.


I should have put it in "tarball" notation :) I read the OP as him
wanting a package/program, so that was my response.

I don't really use a distro as such I use LFS.

Anyway the line he is looking for is

daemon.* -/var/log/daemon.log

Just add to /etc/syslog.conf YMMV.
