linux system imaging problem

Hi,
I am testing some linux imaging tools.. like mondo rescue and
systemimager... both work fine. unless i change the machine model (PC
with different h/w).... somehow after changing the machine model the
restoration goes fine but when i try to boot from this newly imaged
system it searches for / and swap in /dev/hda and then i get kernel
panic. but both my original machine from where i took that system
image and my target machines have /dev/sda

no clue whats going on here.....
