kernel panic when I tried to install linux.

Hi,
when I tried to install linux , I got error messages as
followings...
RAMDISK : Could not find valid Ram Disk image starting at 0
VFS : Could not open root boot device "NULL" or unknown block
(8,3)
please append correct "root" boot option.
Kernel Panic : not syncing : VFS : unable to mount root fs on
unknown block device (8,3)
And there are many Kernel dump message...

.
HDD is recoginzed on CMOS bios... but I don't know why linux can't
find HDD to install.
.
I'd like to know What is problem? How can I fix it?
