Re: installation from hd?

Many thanks to all. I first saw the 21 CDs in the Debian distribution and
this was really discouraging. I couldn´t
imagine that for ex. the kde cd was an installation disk I could use, or I
could use only the first two gnome cds, now I know!
I finally managed to half-install Ubuntu, because in the middle suddenly it
hang, but then I used the rescue disk of
Fedora and managed to read the dvd ISO of it after installing it on a fat32
partition. Now at least I have a working linux with dual booting and I can
further install debian or whatever.

Hello,

I intend to install debian on a laptop but I only have wireless and cd
as the only media options. I have already partitioned my hd and I wanted

install from there. I could only find the netinst cd but this will not
work with my wireless!

Yes. You can install Debian of the hard drive partition; however, you
must take care that that partition is not part of the installed system.
Otherwise, the disk image may be overwritten.

If your laptop will boot of a USB flash drive, you can install Debian off
one of those, too.

Here's a link to the complete installation instructions:

Now, a question... If you can boot off the CD, why not just install off
the CD? I don't know why you were only able to locate the net install
CD. Here's the link to all of the Debian Mirrors:

All you'll need is the first 2 CDs for the default GNOME desktop. The
KDE and XFCE desktops, if you prefer either of those instead of GNOME,
each have their own unique first CD.
