You reboot just because you've reconfigured X...?!
It happens if I reboot, run startx from a recovery kernel or restart X from
an X session with Ctl-Alt-Backspace after replacing the 'vesa' xorg.conf
with one citing 'ati'.
I get a totally black screen and a completely unresponsive system. The
keyboard is competely locked up. I've finagled a pile of 'Option'
statements into the 'Device' section -- no joy.
Exactly when does the lockup occur? If it's when X should start, one
possible
cause is AGP fast write being enabled in the BIOS configuration.
It occurs at the exact point that X should start. The BIOS for this
hardware has no option to enable or disable AGP fast write. In any case,
would that actually lock up the system altogether?
