Help finding files

I am using Debian 3.1 and seem to have lost some files...

I have directory A and in directory A there is directory B and
directory C. I moved directory B into directory C and then I moved
directory B back into directory A. Then I removed directory C.

Now all the files in directory B are gone... when I do a "locate' for
the files it shows them all where I think they should be but when I
try to list the directorys within directory B it says they do not
exist...

How do I find them and get them back?

Any help is very much appreciated!!
