Hi all,
How the hell can I make lilo boot properly ?
Get the required arguments correct. :-D
When I boot from sda2 with
the following lines in lilo.conf:
boot=/dev/sda
image=vmlinuz-sata26
root=/dev/sda1
label=zen
initrd=initrd.splash
read-only
cant run lilo, it says that can't find initrd.splash, (because it
searches in /dev/sda2, I suppose).
Nope.
It seems that lilo isn't able to see more than one partition on sda.
Any hints will be appreciated, TIA
Sure it can, I have had 9 different distributions, each in their own
partition, bootable via lilo.
This is why I am posting this message. I too am used to have different
OSes on different partitions and/or disks. But I have never digged
deeply in what Lilo exactly does, and now the point is, it seems behave
differently from I was expecting. I believed that once you write in Lilo
root=\dev\sda1 all the boot process will happily run from there.
The boot loader instead seems when it first loads to look only in the
partition where Lilo was ran from.
This is one of the reasons LILO has been discarded in favor of grub.
Grub *does* happily manage all the kernels in the same /boot directory
or preferably partition, without having to reload it.
